How to Recover Your LifeReady Account – And Why You Should Set This Up Before You Need It

LifeReady is built on zero-knowledge security – meaning not even LifeReady can access your account or reset your password. This is essential for protecting your most sensitive information. It also means recovery needs to be set up before you need it. Here's how it works.

Why Zero-Knowledge Architecture Creates This Challenge

LifeReady is built on a zero-knowledge security architecture. Your data is encrypted using KeyCrypt™, our patented technology, before it ever leaves your device – meaning only you can access your account. Not even LifeReady can view your information, and not even LifeReady can reset your password.

This is by design. True security means your information remains private, even from the platform that stores it.

But it creates a practical challenge: if you forget your password without a recovery method in place, your account becomes permanently inaccessible. Our customer support team cannot let you back in. That’s the nature of zero-knowledge architecture. Trusted Party Account Recovery solves this – without compromising the security principles that make LifeReady trustworthy.

Option 1: Personal Recovery Key

A Personal Recovery Key is a randomly generated passphrase – a unique combination of words that acts as a key to your account.

It’s shown to you once. Write it down and store it somewhere secure outside your account – not in your email inbox, not in a notes app on the same device. A physical copy in a secure location works well for most people.

You can generate multiple recovery keys to give to trusted people. Each key is unique, so you can revoke any individual key without affecting the others. Using a recovery key resets your password and removes 2FA – remember to set both up again after recovering access.

Option 2: Trusted Party Recovery

Trusted Party Recovery lets you designate two to four Trusted Parties to approve a recovery request on your behalf.

When you initiate recovery: you verify your email, create a new password, and enter a waiting state. Your Trusted Parties receive a notification. Two must approve for recovery to succeed.

Tell your Trusted Parties they’ve been designated before you need them. A recovery request arriving unexpectedly may look suspicious – a request from someone who knows they’ve been designated is easily verified.

Which Option to Use – and Why Both Is Best

A Personal Recovery Key is your independent safety net – it doesn’t require anyone else and works immediately. The right choice if you want a backup entirely under your own control.

Trusted Party Recovery is more resilient for long-term use – it doesn’t depend on a physical document that could be lost, and it builds in a human check that reduces the risk of a fraudulent recovery attempt.

Setting up both means you’re protected across different failure scenarios. Both are configured in LifeReady’s Security Centre.

The time to set up account recovery is before you need it. Once locked out, your options depend entirely on what you set up in advance.
